Say What?
By Cheryl Ramurath
45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. Luke 6:45 (NKJV)
If you have submitted to the spiritual truth that “you have what you say”, then what you have right now is what you have already said. We know that ‘death and life’ are in the power of the tongue but actually measuring its effect in our daily life is not something that we ordinarily engage in.
I dare you today to ask God to show you what the effects of your speech have been in crafting your current circumstances. Too often, we sit around moping because we think that God is taking too long to give us what we want, or we try to impress Him by all the work that we are doing in His name with the unspoken expectation that He will automatically bless us with the things that we need.
Imagine a little boy who wants his dad to take him to the park. He can wake up in the morning and get dressed for his imagined adventures. He can call his friend to meet him at the park. He can pack his toys and snacks for the park. Now, his dad may see and hear everything that is going on but if the boy never asks his dad to take him to the park, whose fault is it if he never gets there?
The book of James says that “You have not because you ask not.” I watched a sermon by Gloria Copeland on the topic of The Armour of God and learnt that what you speak has more power than you realise. This is what she said: “You have authority over what you say. Change what comes out of your mouth by changing what is in your heart. Change what’s in your heart by controlling what goes into your eyes and ears.”
If you allow fear and the wiles of worldly culture to enter into your spirit, even though you pray and sing and go to church, you will pollute the purity of God’s work in your life. So what do you do when you find yourself with a fistful of contaminated faith? The simple yet profound answer is that we need to do what the little boy has to do - ask his dad for help.
What did you say yesterday that you are living out today? Are you speaking words of faith, power and authority or are you muttering and complaining along with those that don’t know the truth of an Almighty, All-Powerful, Nothing-is-Impossible God? We need to agree with what God has to say about us in order to ignite the life-transforming power that we have available on the inside of us. Don’t let the enemy snuff out the flames of faith in your life - rise up to a new level of power and truth and Say What God Says!
Take some time today to think about what you are thinking about. It is usually a reflection of the things that you will talk about. If you can master the art of guarding your heart and guiding your tongue, you will be able to build a bridge of understanding between the things you have asked for and the things that you will walk into by faith.
